Career

His career began in 1983 at the Reserve Bank of Malawi, where over eleven years, he rose from a graduate clerk to the rank of Director, gaining comprehensive experience in various critical departments including research, foreign exchange, and capital markets. In 1994, a move to the National Bank of Malawi Plc marked a significant 22-year tenure of escalating responsibility. After leading the Treasury and serving as Chief Financial Officer, He progressed to Deputy CEO and ultimately served as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director for a full decade, from 2006 to 2016. Most recently, from 2016 to 2022, He served as the Group Chief Executive and Executive Director of Press Corporation Plc, one of Malawi's largest conglomerates. In this role, he held executive responsibility and accountability for a diverse portfolio of 14 subsidiaries and joint ventures. His influence extends significantly into board governance, having chaired numerous high-profile organizations including the University of Malawi Council, National Bank of Malawi, Malawi Airlines, and Telkom Networks Malawi Plc (TNM). He has also held directorships and leadership roles in key national bodies such as the Malawi Revenue Authority and the President’s Economic Management Team, cementing a legacy as a pivotal figure in the nation's economic and corporate landscape.

Academic

Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Economics with distinction from the University of Malawi, a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Southampton and is a qualified Chartered Accountant (FCCA). His immense contribution to national development was recognized in 2015 with an honorary PhD in Management and Leadership from the University of Malawi for "Outstanding and Exceptional Leadership and Service to Country." His commitment to continuous learning is further evidenced by executive education at world-renowned institutions such as Harvard Business School, INSEAD, and London Business School.
