Mrs. Agnes Sentala
DIRECTOR, PENSION COMPLIANCE AND SUPPORT
Agnes Sentala is a notary public and legal practitioner with over 20 years of dedicated service in central banking, having joined the Reserve Bank of Malawi in 2003. She was appointed to the position of Director Pension Compliance and Support in February 2025 to set up a newly established department whose main mandate is to oversee employer compliance of the Pension Act, 2023. Agnes Sentala gained practical experience in pension matters when she served as Director, Pension Fund, a position which entailed overseeing the operations of the Reserve Malawi of Malawi Pension Fund from July 2022 to January 2025.
Prior to the directorship appointments, Agnes Sentala worked as a Manager Legal Services in the Legal Affairs department, where she provided legal services to the Reserve Bank of Malawi as an in-house lawyer. She is a trained AML/CFT Mutual Evaluation Assessor, and between the years 2020 and 2022 she served as an Eastern and Southern African Anti Money Laundering Group (ESAAMLG) Assessor in implementing Financial Action Task Force Standards on Combating Money Laundering, Terrorism Financing and Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction. In 2012, Agnes Sentala played a pivotal role in establishing the Export Development Fund (EDF) which is a subsidiary of the Reserve Bank. She has also championed the drafting of several laws at the Reserve Bank of Malawi, including the recently enacted Foreign Exchange Act, 2025.
Agnes Sentala holds an LLM degree (with distinction) specializing in Business and Commercial Law obtained from Bangor University in Wales and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree obtained from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. She also holds a Certificate in Forensic Investigations from the International Institute of Certified Forensic Investigations Professionals, USA, and a Certificate in Drafting obtained from the International Law Institute of Uganda. Agnes Sentala was admitted to the Malawi Bar in 2003 and currently serves as a Member of the Malawi Law Society’s Honours Sub-committee.
